Online Resources

  • Diasend is an online data management system for uploading data from various glucose meters, Animas insulin pumps, and Descom CGMs.
  • Lifebringer is a Diabetes management tool made for Diabetics that keeps track of blood sugar/glucose tests, A1C records, and test strips. You may also view your blood sugar records in either a grid format or visual reports to get a better understanding of how you are doing. Lifebringer also reminds you, the Diabetic, to test at times you choose as well as warning you when your test strip count is low (optional)
  • HealthEngage Diabetes has a new FREE web application. HealthEngage Diabetes is split into four major sections, Collect, Graph, Reports, and Info/Help, so that you can have access directly to what you need at a click of a button. Free Trial. 
  • Carelogger.com - Users can sign up and use CareLogger free of charge, as a logbook for glucose levels, blood pressure and medication intake. It helps users identify trends in their daily routine and tracks exercise.
  • SugarStats.com - SugarStats provides online diabetes management, community support and collaborative sharing to motivate and improve health. Free accounts or $8.29/month accounts available.
  • Sweetspot.dm - SweetSpot allows you to upload - or "fetch" - your blood sugar readings from your meter, email, or a cell phone. Once blood sugars are fetched, the information is accessible by anyone with an internet connection. Free 1 month trial available.
  • One of the better online record systems can be found at MyHealthChannel. This site lets you download most meters over the web via a PC or with their own modem device linked to your meter. Carbs, insulin, and comments can be entered with graphics available to interpret your data. You physician see your data directly online if you wish. Price: Free.
  • Mike Boeselager created his Dia-Log on the web for entering blood sugars, insulin doses, and foods online. Has some nice custom reports. Price: Free.
  • DiaTrak's Blood Glucose Manager lets you enter glucose, insulin, and food data manually and get nice graphics back. Price: Free
  • Bayer Healthcare offers an Online Logbook with graphics. Price: Free
  • Rose Technologies in Bellevue, WA, has an older setup, called the Diabetes HomeCare Center, for those who want to download their meter through a Windows PC. Said to download MediSense Precision XtraTM, Glucometer DEX, Glucometer Elite XL, ONE TOUCH Profile, and ONE TOUCH II. Price: Free
  • DiabetEASE is a web-based download program. Said to work with One Touch Basic, One Touch Profile, SureStep, Ultra, Glucometer Dex, Glucometer Elite XL, and FreeStyle meters. Price: Free
  • Accu-Chek Diabetes Assistant Plan graphs data downloaded from Accu-Chek meters. Price: Free
  • Dia-Log has an On-Line Diabetes LogBook in which data is entered by hand. Price: Free
  • LifeClinic has a Diabetes Tools section for entering glucose and related data. Price: Free
  • Novo Nordisk provides Novo Track for manual online entry of your data
  • RxLearn has a rudimentary Blood Glucose Monitoring Tool. Price: Free
  • SiDiary is a terrific freeware program by Alf Windhorst for Windows or Pocket PC. Price: Free
    The new Version 6 is also available for purchase for Windows PC, Pocket PC, Smartphones and Java cellphones.
  • NuMedics founded by Kazi Ahmed has two products: CliniPro for the physician and Diabetes Partner PC for the person with diabetes. Downloads Lifescan, Roche, Medisense, and Bayer meters. Price: $99 for you, several thousand dollars for the physician who wants to be tied in.
  • Newholme Software has the Diabeasy Software Tool. It provides a simple, quick and easy way to enter and view data. It also sorts data by response or cause, allowing you to determine which factors effect your blood sugar control. Price: $38.50 for CD Rom or $25.70 for download.
  • GlucoControl is a PDA software that helps to control the glucose levels in blood, it replaces the classic diabetes notebook.
  • Fitness Assistant is a software program that tracks calories and net carbs (great for diabetics). Free 30-day full featured trial. Priced at $49.95.

iPhone

There are many Diabetes related apps in the Itunes App Store. Some are loosely geared towards diabetes, but there are many diabetes specific apps available.

  • dLife app can track blood glucose levels, carbohydrate intake, insulin doses, and exercise, and includes a food database and notes section. You can also see videos from the dLife TV show.

  • iBGStar is the app for the iBGStar meter. It can track carbohydrate intake, blood glucose levels, exercise, and insulin doses. You can include notes to tag blood glucose readings and email records.

  • RapidCalc bolus insulin dose calculator for diabetics following a basal-bolus regimen. It's designed for people on injections and measures meal doses as a unit (or units for Type 2s) per portion of 10, 12, or 15 grams.

  • Glooko (with an additional cable) allows you to download information directly from your meter to your iPhone. Usable meters include: Contour, Freedom Lite, Freestyle Lite, Ultra2, UltraLink and the UltraMini.

Blackberry

There aren't many apps specifically for diabetes but you can search their app store for carb and calorie trackers.

  • National Institutes of Health Diabetics Consultant is more of a reference than an application for tracking. You'll find exercise suggestions, first aid handling insulin shock, diabetic coma, medications,nutrition info and more. Plus you ll find a approximately 300 word Glossary on Diabetes, Treatments for Diabetes, and Medical Terminology, as they relate specifically to Diabetics.

Android

For a comprehensive, up-to-date list of the thousands of titles that are available, you will need to view Android Market on a handset.

Palm OS

  • Diabetes Pilot for Palm OS runs on Palm handhelds such as the Treo, Centro, Tungsten, and Zire as well as older Palm handhelds made my Palm and other manufacturers. Mac and Windows

  • CareLink Personal software is a free, secure, web-based therapy management software from Medtronic. It allows you to upload your insulin pump, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device, and blood glucose meter data to a free, web-based program. From there, you can store your information and give your Diabetes Healthcare Team access to it.
  • Calorie King Nutrition & Exercise Manager is built to help you lose weight quickley and effectively. You can record what you eat and the exercise you do and track your weight over time.   • Diabasics is a nice program that lets you chart a number of necessary information you need for proper diabetes management. It logs blood glucose levels, carbs and fat eaten and, if you are insulin dependent, the amount of insulin you injected. Free trials are available

  • GNU Gluco Control is open-source (free) software, intended for type 1 diabetics. It supports storing insulin, BG data and food data (use the USDA database that's included or create your own). Other features include a helper for Bolus doses, printing data, displaying graphs and support for importing meter data. Also works on Linux systems.

Mac Only Software

  • Track your blood glucose tests with ease with the 1-2 tracker for the mac. Download the free trial or purchase it for $15.00.

Windows Only Software

  • Nutritional Computing Concepts has release version six of their helpful programs. The NCC programs can be used to automatically plan meals/menus using carb counting , Choose Your Foods : Exchange Lists for Diabetes or any other approach you prefer. You can select the nutrient types you wish to have included in nutritional analyses (160 nutrient types are available). Although, it's kind of crude looking, it works fairly well. A few cosmetic changes could make this a great program.
  • DietPower has a 14 day trial. It allows you to track 30 different vitamins and minerals, and has a database of 21,000 foods.
