Diabetes Reflected in the Mirror - MoToMove #8

Diabetes Reflected in the Mirror - MoToMove #8

Can you see diabetes in a mirror?  What does it look like? Is what we see in the mirror a reflection of reality or our interpretation of reality?

Well I can tell you thirty-eight stories about female diabetic movers and shakers who chose to see the realities of living with diabetes in their mirrors and decided to go on ahead and live their dreams in tandem with their diabetes.  They created a self-image of strength, beauty, wisdom and reality.  One such woman in my book, The Sisterhood of Diabetes: Facing Challenges & Living Dreamsis Catherine Schuller.

Catherine’s story is one that motivates and will get your MoTo Move going.  You will be inspired, as I was, by her life as an actress, dancer, stroke victim and plus size model who lives with pre-diabetes. Pre-diabetes is often described as that grey area of diabetes where some, but not all, of the criteria for diabetes are present. The standards set by the American Diabetes Association to determine pre-diabetes are: fasting blood glucose level of 100-125 and HbA1c blood test of 5.7-6.4.  By tending to careful eating, daily exercise and checking blood sugars Catherine keeps a close watch on her pre-diabetes.  Her take charge positive personality can be seen as she rides her portable bicycle, flashing a winning smile and fashionable clothes around New York City.  She bobs and weaves with care and confidence through the streets, in control of her life and her pre-diabetes.

So we can choose what we want to see as a reflection of diabetes in the mirror. Look and see nothing but a person’s image in a mirror or see a clear and vibrant reflection of a person who keeps moving onward, upward and forward towards healthy motivated future, just like Catherine.

She knows the importance of exercise, sports and leading an active life as a major component of excellent diabetes care.
