I would like to introduce some energy medicine concepts that support the practice of Yin Ren Qigong in general, and the Type 2 Diabetes protocol developed from it in particular.
In Qigong and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), all health issues including psychological problems have but one single cause: energy imbalances resulting from blockages. A well ordered and strong energy field results in a healthy immune system, and balanced hormones. The knock-on effect is healthy metabolism, organ function and psychological well-being. It is like a pyramid of ever more subtle control mechanisms with the physical body at the bottom, and the energy flow at the top.
As we grow to adulthood our health is normally good because the energy systems are well ordered. Over time though, from say 25 - 45 the energy systems start to break down, disorder creeps in. If there are genetic predispositions, they will start to manifest, other long-term conditions begin to become chronic. As life progresses the chronic conditions become worse, and old age is where these conditions manifest into life-threatening calamities.
Your mind communicates with your body through the energy or qi field (and vice versa). This happens whether you like it or not. Reaction patterns that are repeated on a daily basis then begin to wear away at your energy field. Ultimately your organs suffer.
According to Dr. Sun, the founder of Yi Ren Qigong, type 2 diabetes results from an imbalance in the energy interaction (and resulting metabolic interaction) between the pancreas and the liver.
The "always on" mentality drives the liver to exhaustion. The pancreas loses its ability to turn the liver off. The cells of the body become exhausted and unable to take up insulin. Thus the cells are starving although there is plenty of energy in the blood. (hunger pangs anyone?)
By practicing to first feel your energy field, then to activate key energy centers (corresponding to acupuncture points, meridians and channels), you can learn to re-energize your cells, gather and balance the qi in your meridians. The meridians are paired, the critical pairs in our discussion are the Stomach/Pancreas and the Liver/Gall Bladder.
There is a way to learn to feel your meridians, and to enhance or de-enhance the energy flows in them. In the diabetic protocol the core of the practice involves leading the qi along the Pancreas enhancing pathway, and reversing the qi along the Liver/Gall Bladder pathway. This technique practiced over a few months has a cumulative effect which begins to reverse the type 2 diabetes condition.
In a study in which I took part as assistant instructor, people began to notice a reduction in hunger pangs, sleep improved, energy increased. There was also a leveling off, and reversal of the (measurable) diabetic condition. As the study progressed people noticed that the sugar highs were no longer so high, the medication they were taking became too strong, and several people actually reduced their meds in order to prevent the sugar lows from becoming too pronounced.
Experience will vary of course, and one of the biggest determining factors is the consistency of practice. No practice, no progress! Since people need to have a level of self-worth etc. in order to even allow them to start such a program, I see this as the main problem.
It is quite humorous though when one considers that with all the time in a day, people can't find 30- 40 minutes to care for their health! Btw. with improvements in health come reductions in the amount of sleep required, so the practice pays for itself in the long term.
I could elucidate further, but wish to open things up for questions/interaction (if any!).
Have a great day!
