My MM512 warranty runs out in a few months and I've been investigating other pumps. I've been very interested in the Animas 1250 and am wondering if anyone knows what additional features/functionality the Animas 2020 pump has that the 1250 doesn't, except for the color display. Is the color display the only difference between the two?

'm curious as to why you are no upgrading with MM.. I am not on a pump yet but they have been recommended by my doc.

I've been very satisfied w/my MM512 pump and have no complaints at all. MM's been a great company and I've haven't had any issues with them. Since it's been nearly 4 years since I got the 512 I'm researching other pumps, particularly Animas. I do like Animas's smaller basal increments and larger screen size. Like you, my endo recommended the MM but this time around I wanted to research all pumps before making the decision to stick w/MM. You'll be please with MM.

I had a MM 511 that I upgraded to a MM 512. The 511 had many defects that MM failed to properly address. Particularly irksome was that it was sold and advertised as a waterproof pump. After it had been out about 21/2 years they sent all owners a letter saying it wasn't and water damage would not be covered under warranty. The second was that all of them would fail to rewind at some point. They would keep switching out your pump until you escalated the issue wih customer service.

The 512 would calculate insulin duration at 8 hours and it was non adjustable. Almost everyone recognized this as a defect but not minimed.
The 515 improved these faults. Generally an ok pump. However, there are many drawbacks to it, m ostly having to do with their proprietary system way of doing buisness (Therir pump= their meter and their infusion sets).

It was because of this that I looked at Cozmore and Animas. I wore both for 2 weeks (talk to you dr and then hook up with the sales reps. It is the best way to shop). I really liked the cozmo. It's suggestions and calculations are dead on. Software far superior to MM and pretty = to Animas. I especially like the carb deficiency feature. I just didn't like the size. It's a little bigger than either of the others.
Because of that, I decided to go with the Animas. I actually killed a MM in a pool once and I like the Animas size. I sometimes have buyers remorse over the cozmo.
If you've been with MM a while you realize the service/spport ain't what it used to/should be.

To answer your question, other than the screen, my understanding is that unlike the 1250, the 2020 passes through carb and blood glucose readings when it is downloaded to the computer. That's it.

Hope I'm doing a reply correctly, this is different from all my car forums. I am also shopping for a new pump and agree with Carlos that MM is not what they used to be with their service/support compared to my MM501 and 507 days. I ended up with Cozmore and have been very happy with the unit and the Cozmonitor, when it came out. It's 4 year warranty is up very soon and they won't upgrade my pump software because of that. So if I need to buy a new one I may as well shop around. The Animas 2020 looks interesting and I'll have to ask my "doc" who has one I can compare notes with.
As for the pump the Deltec unit has been a pleasure to live. I also needed the water proof/resistant type pump. Not familiar with the newer MM units I'll stay with comments on the Deltec. Simple to use yet can be very detailed, easy square wave bolus, bolus with or without correction bolus, correction bolus at a push of the button when using the Cozmonitor (very handy and less expensive than the DexCom), I hadn't noticed a size problem with it, they are all something else on the belt. The contras on the display screens can vary unit to unit and with the challenged eyesight I want to see the Animas.

i had the minimed or medtronic 512 for a long time, but last year i think it was I upgraded to a new one. I got the animas 1250 ir and it is my favorite. i have had many pumps since my first one 9 yrs old ago. I have been diabetic for 15 years. I went straight to insulin when diagnosed. My opinion the pump is the way to go. Good Luck! :)

My husband just got his first insulin pump and started April 30. We went with Animas. We live in a small town and the doctor tried to get us to go with Minimed. (none of his patients were on the animas pump). I work in the insurance industry and had heard alot of complaints people have with Minimed. We tried getting a pump with minimed. They kept dragging their feet (two months after the dr prescribed the pump, we still didn't have it). Minimed blamed it on my insurance company. I knew that wasn't true because I work for the insurance company. They had already approved it to pay at 100% and I had it in writing. I had even faxed a copy of the letter from the insurance company to minimed. They still didn't ship the pump... so, I called up Animas. We got the new pump within a month! So far, our Customer service experience with Animas has been great!! I have emailed the sales department, the insurance representatives and even the nurses that helped him get started. Since I talk on the phone all day at work, I would much rather accomplish everything thru email. Our experience has been wonderful! Another reason for using Animas is because the pump is waterproof. We do alot of creek walking, boating, fishing, and swimming. They told us not to worry about getting it wet. We were still worried about it and they told us if it breaks, they will fed ex a new pump to us over-nite at no charge! They guarantee it in the water too. His sugars have went from an average of 175-200 down to 90-130. And, he uses much less insulin. He loves his Animas 2020 pump.

OK, I've been playing with the Animas 2020 for 5 days and I love the display screen, it's easy to read with my poor eyesight. The software falls way short for easy of use, compared to the Deltec Cozmo, IMHO. If I could rewrite the 2020's menu software...I'd replace the Basal Rate with IOB on the opening screen, Under the Bolus menu have the ezCarb the first choice, ezCarb needs to count by 5?s and not single grams, the Food List Servings count by ??s and not tenths
the BG correction should default to the operators personal target factor and not 80, and the Review Results should automatically input the Total as default, instead of 0.00 with adjustment choice +/-. The rep I've been working with is fantastic and I'm unhappy I won't be obtaining his product. I feel the Cozmo is much easier and far less button pushing to get what I want.

PS
Also the Animas needs the feature to recommend the number of carbs for a low BG level.
Bottom line is I think the Deltec should have a display screen like the colour Animas.

My MM 512 is 4 years old at the end of August. I'm thinking about the Animas 2020.

One reason is the issues with the 512. Within a short time of buying it they came out with the 515 and there was no upgrade option. I've replaced it twice in 4 years and the accessories (belt clip especially) don't last. Customer service has definitely gone downhill.

But the Minimed CGM seems really good, so I'm torn. I guess I'll wait to see what Dexcom folks say on Monday June 11 (http://www.bernardfarrell.com/blog/2007/06/dexcom-conference-call-on-monday.htm). That may be enough to keep me on Dexcom.

Today I'm going to a pumpers club meeting in Woburn MA where the Animas will be demoed. If I learn anything significant, I'll post it here.

Dexcom SEVEN will be officially released on June 23 at the ADA conference.
Initially it will be available to big customers (not sure what this means), with rollout to existing customers shortly afterwards.
Upgrade cost for current Dexcom STS users is $150 which includes new transmitter, receiver and software. You'll need to mail in old transmitter and receiver.
Cost for new Dexcom SEVEN is $800. That's receiver, transmitter, and software. No sensors are included.
Sensor cost is going up to $60 (from $35). They'll be in boxes of four.
Needle gauge is going from 25 to 26 gauge. That's an improvement, but not really enough for me!
FDA did not impose any restrictions on approval.
New paper due out next month that will show how system works for well and poorly controlled diabetes to improve control substantially.
They are not dropping the existing Dexcom 3-day sensors for some time, wasn't clear what the end date will be.

I hope this helps.

I have been diabetic for 45 years, diagnosed at 5 years of age. I was put on a pump 9 years ago and am on my second one. 1st was a Minimed 507, now a Medtronic Minimed Paradigm 515. I'm ready for a new pump and have been researching for 2 months. Minimed is out of the question because when they got bought by Medtronic 4 years ago? their customer service went down the drain. They have the "our way or the highway" attitude. The Omnipod is interesting, especially since you don't have a tube to keep up with but the PDA has a horrible display and you still have to keep up with something all the time. Plus they are less than a year old. Not tried and true yet. I narrowed it down to the Animas 2020 and the Deltec Cozmo. After researching both it seemed that the Cozmo offered more than the Animas but the Cozmo is a big chunky pump and it's the only pump that reads vertically. All others read horizontally. I got my pump Wednesday, and Thursday the display went nuts. If developed black lines thru it and some areas you can't even read. I called Deltec Thursday AM and told them what was going on and they had a new one sitting at work Friday AM. I opened it up, put in the battery, it powered up, and guess what, this display is worse. It has continous black lines running thru it all the way across. I think it's a great pump but if you can't read the display to program it, it's worthless. I'm going to look at the Animas 2020 because when I saw it in my doctors office I was over taken by the beautiful color display. I have had 10 laser treatments from retinopity and had cataract surgery in both eyes 3 years ago so my eyesight is not the best and that nice high contrast color display was very easy for me to see. I'm not sure about features as compared to Cozmo but the fact that I can see the display already puts them on top with me. If anybody has any useful feedback I would greatly appreciate it. Mike

I need to update pricing information:

3. Upgrade cost for current Dexcom STS users is $150 which includes new transmitter, receiver and software. You'll need to mail in old transmitter and receiver.

I spoke with someone in sales at Dexcom on Friday. The upgrade cost I was quoted was $350. That's almost as much as I paid for the original device, which is very annoying.

I'm hoping to get one that I can try out for a week or two. If I do, I'll blog about it (http://www.bernardfarrell.com/blog/blogger.html).

:)Animas is my choice of pumps. MM is more difficult to move around in as compared to Animas. I have not seen the Cosmo, but Animas is a 9 out of 10 for simular features. I had to go to MM because of the CGMS. I regret it now that Animas is back in competition in that area.

Just contacted Smiths Medical today about pumps.. they've decided to close their diabetic department worldwide.. nice to know they've given up on us diabetics?!

Just started shopping around for pumps but this kind of pisses me off... not for me but, I think of all those pumpers using their pumps!

a Damn shame. :(
