I have had Type 1 for 28 years and for most of those years have been in terrible control. I have mild neuropathy(my doctor said it was mild),had retinopathy but has cleared up on its own(Thank God). I feel very lucky not to have major complications. I was a very wild teen, never tested my blood or went to the doctor, drank beer and ate anything I wanted all the time. Only in the last couple of years have I tried to get good control and it is hard. Almost 41/2 years ago when I got pregnant with my 3rd child did I start to get excellent care for my D. My ob suggested that I get on a pump and thats what I did. My A1c is ok it is at 6.5 I would like it lower, but it is alot better than 4 years ago when it was 13!( I was in the ER unconcsiece with a low and just told I was pregnant) Everything is changing all the time I guess because I am getting older but I am trying hard to get good control. I want to be around without complications and see my kids grow up. I just thought I would say Hi and tell a little about myself. Have a Great Day!

Hi Christy, Its sounds like we went to different schools together...save for getting pregnant. I partied hard and now need to be around for my daughters to pick on. Type 1 for 40 years half of that not being responsible for myself.

HI Christy
I'm not a diabetic but my husband has been a diabetic for 37 years. His first marriage broke up and we've only been married two years. He has been so depressed about his control. Then I found this site and found so much information and help that things have really begun to change. Though I'm not the diabetic... I feel I'm the one needing support... and needing to talk about it!! He's only just starting to be able to talk about his diabetes without feeling shamed or embarrassed and for first time believe he can get a better control over his BG levels (ie. since letting me help him... by counting carbs and using the smart charts)

I read the book Using Insulin which I found to be such fantastic help. But I still have so many questions and no one to ask!

Hi-
Annie--Ask those questions. Ask them here...find a diabetic support group in your area and go without your husband if he's not ready...check your local hospital or clinic for a diabetic educator. I've had type 1 for 20 years and the information and approaches have evolved over that time...Help your husband accept that today can be a fresh start for him
