Hi,

I live in Sussex, WI which is a western suburb of Milwaukee. I am wondering if any of you know of a good doctor in the area. I've had type 1 since 1982 and since August I have been having a terrible time controling my blood sugar.

My current doctor has recently added a medtronic supplier into his office suites and since the new addition his only answer to my problems is you need a pump, end of story.

I've read much about pumps on line and although many say they like them, the same people then continue their messsage listing all of the problems they have been having with them (in some cases for years). I am confused... Are the pumps a real benifit or have the doctors just convinced these people that they are wonderful and therefore problems and all, the patients think they are great.

I truly need some advice, but I feel that a doctor that now has the pump representative working directly out of his office may have a tainted view of the situation.

I can't help you on the doctor issue. I have been a diabetic since August of 87'. I have been on an insulin pump for almost 10 years now. For me, the pump was the best decision I could have ever made as far as my diabetes is concerned. My H1c is always in the 5s somewhere. Some people think the pump doesn't take as much work as shots do. They are completely wrong. If you didn't test your blood sugars while taking shots, don't think you will get better results on a pump (not testing blood sugars). I am very in favor of insulin pumps. Continious glucose monitoring is a totally different issue altogether.:)
